Meetings & wood days

Events

Second Saturday of most months, plus field days when the wood shows up.

Upcoming

July meeting — Pole Lathe Day

Saturday, July 18, 20269:00 AM – 1:00 PMWest Jordan Fairgrounds Pavilion

Both club pole lathes will be set up all morning, plus the shave horses for roughing out. We’re turning chair legs and rolling pins — bring a green billet if you have one, or use club stock (we still have box elder from the May wood day).

New this month: Ray is demonstrating how to grind and hone a roughing gouge. Bring your dull tools.

August meeting — Spoon carving workshop

Saturday, August 8, 20269:00 AM – 12:00 PMWest Jordan Fairgrounds Pavilion

Our most beginner-friendly meeting of the year. We’ll split fresh birch blanks, lay out a spoon with a pencil, and take it from axe to knife to hook knife. Club sloyd knives available to borrow; blanks provided.

If you’ve been meaning to bring a friend, this is the one.

September field day — Canyon wood day

Saturday, September 12, 20268:00 AM – 2:00 PMBig Cottonwood Canyon (carpool from the pavilion)

A landowner up Big Cottonwood has a storm-felled cherry with our name on it. We’ll buck it, split it into billets with froes and wedges, and divide the haul among everyone who shows up to swing a maul.

Bring gloves, water, and a truck if you have one. Carpool leaves the pavilion at 8:00 sharp.
