July meeting — Pole Lathe Day
Both club lathes set up all morning. Bring a billet or use ours — we're turning chair legs and rolling pins.
Pole lathes · Spoon carving · Chair making
We're a club of pole-lathe turners, spoon carvers, and chair makers along the Wasatch Front. We work green wood with hand tools — axes, drawknives, and gouges — the way village bodgers did for centuries.

The craft
A bodger was a craftsman who set up camp in the beech woods and turned chair legs on a foot-powered pole lathe, working the wood while it was still green and easy to cut. The trade is centuries old; the pleasure of it hasn't aged a day.
